In Angola, a vaccination campaign is underway aimed at covering at least 95% of the population in target municipalities across all 21 provinces. The goal of this campaign is to strengthen protection for nearly 11 million children under 9 years old and interrupt the spread of vaccine-preventable diseases.
Authorities note that this campaign will require the mobilization of 18,201 vaccination teams and is being carried out amid an epidemiological situation that 'demands' a coordinated response.
According to the ministry, since January 2025, at least 20 cases of circulating poliovirus have been registered in nine provinces of Angola. During the same period, 1,954 cases of measles were confirmed nationwide, and yellow fever recorded 19 confirmed cases in Luanda and Ikolo-I-Bengu.
The Ministry of Health (MINSA) estimates that a total of 10.9 million children will be immunized within this campaign across 326 municipalities. Details show that 2.5 million children will be vaccinated against polio in 68 municipalities, and 1.2 million against yellow fever in 21 municipalities of Luanda and Ikolo-I-Bengu.
Mobile, stationary, and outreach teams will be established as part of the campaign. The ministry emphasizes that the campaign aims to 'strengthen children's immunity and reduce the risk of transmission' of these diseases. Furthermore, the ministry calls on parents, legal guardians, community leaders, and the entire population to actively participate, accept vaccination teams, and bring children to vaccination points.
