Uzbekistan has 577.7 thousand teachers at the start of the academic year

According to data from the National Statistical Committee of Uzbekistan, 577,700 teachers were employed in general secondary education institutions in Uzbekistan at the beginning of the 2025/2026 academic year, excluding external part-time staff.

The number of teachers increased by 12,800 compared to the previous year, which represents a growth of 2.3%.

Among all teachers, women constitute the majority—72.5%, or 418,800 people, while men account for 27.5%, or 158,900 people.

The largest number of teachers is registered in Samarkand and Kashkadarya regions, with 65,100 in each. They are followed by Fergana region with 60,600 teachers and Surkhandarya region with 52,300.

Andijan region has 46,300 teachers, and Namangan region has 42,600. The Republic of Karakalpakstan has 40,700 teachers, and Tashkent region has 40,200.

Khorezm region has 35,100 teachers, Tashkent city has 34,100, and Bukhara region has 33,400. It was also noted that Jizzakh region has 25,700 teachers, Navoi region has 22,300, and Syrdarya region has 14,200.

These statistical data were published on the eve of Teacher and Mentor Day, which is celebrated in Uzbekistan on October 1.
