Biologists from the United Kingdom have discovered that patterns on butterfly wings can generate deceptive movement signals, leading to predator disorientation.
To conduct this research, scientists used high-speed video recording methods to capture the free flight of butterflies and also applied a genetic algorithm to model the evolution process of these patterns.
Experiments demonstrated that natural patterns provide a visually more complex and intricate picture of movement compared to wings lacking such patterns. Notably, the genetic algorithm independently derived designs that closely resembled those found in nature.
The results of this scientific work were officially published in the journal Nature.
