BMW has introduced the updated next-generation 3 Series sedan model, as well as released the fully electric i3 model. In this premium sedan, the manufacturer has updated the design, interior, and powertrain. This model range features three gasoline engine versions and two electric versions.
Regarding the electric lineup, it includes the i3 40 xDrive and i3 50 xDrive models. The i3 50 xDrive model boasts a claimed range of 912 kilometers. This vehicle is equipped with a dual-motor system producing 469 hp and 645 Nm of torque. According to the company, the sedan can accelerate to 100 kilometers per hour in just 4.7 seconds. It uses a 108.7 kWh battery, and the brand claims that charging for only 10 minutes will provide a range of up to 423 kilometers according to the WLTP cycle.
The i3 40 xDrive model is equipped with a 374 hp engine and an 82.8 kWh battery, with a claimed range of 710 kilometers. The exterior design remains identical for both gasoline and electric versions.
In the future, the company plans to add a plug-in hybrid to this series next year. The eighth generation of the BMW 3 Series will be available in electric, gasoline, mild hybrid (48V), and plug-in hybrid variants. Currently, the electric portfolio consists of two versions, and a more powerful i3 M60 xDrive version is expected next year.
The car will be equipped with a 3D-supported Head-Up Display, a 17.9-inch central screen, and a redesigned multifunction steering wheel. Amazon Alexa Plus technology is also provided to enhance voice interaction. Furthermore, the interior will feature adjustable and memory seats, rear seat heating, and a Harman Kardon audio system.
