According to the latest Opensignal survey, Vivo achieved the highest average 5G download speed among operators in nations with over 200 thousand square kilometers. The company registered an average of 324.3 Mbps, surpassing Claro, which reached 319 Mbps, and TIM, with 308.1 Mbps.
This performance is part of the 5G Global Mobile Network Experience Awards 2026 report, keeping Vivo in first place in this category for the third consecutive year. The analysis was based on billions of measurements collected directly from users' devices between January 1st and June 29th.
Opensignal segments the evaluated markets into two distinct groups based on territorial area. In the group of countries with over 200 thousand sq km, Vivo led, followed by Claro and TIM. However, the comparison changes when considering smaller countries, where SK Telecom from South Korea achieved 495.1 Mbps and took the lead in that specific division.
It is important to note that the markets are analyzed separately, which prevents a direct competition among all studied operators. Opensignal's methodology also verifies whether the network is operationalized on a commercial scale, excluding restricted deployments or pre-commercial tests, requiring sufficient coverage and adoption to configure a national offering.
The 2026 edition introduced a new parameter called Time on 5G, which measures the proportion of time that users with compatible plans and devices remained connected to an active 5G network.
Connection Time and Coverage Indicators
In larger territories, T-Mobile from the United States demonstrated leadership in this indicator, reaching 79.7%. In smaller markets, StarHub from Singapore recorded 68.2%. Furthermore, Opensignal evaluated coverage, with T-Mobile and Singtel, both from Singapore, being winners in their respective categories, considering the geographical reach of the networks and population density.
In an official statement about the results, Vivo communicated that its 5G infrastructure is accessible in over a thousand Brazilian cities and reaches more than 73% of the population. The company also announced investments of about R$ 4.6 billion during the first half of 2026, resources primarily directed towards improving and modernizing the networks.
In conclusion, with an average download speed of 324.3 Mbps, Vivo holds a prominent position in the category grouping operators from large countries, while Claro and TIM complete the top three.
