Researchers conducted a chemical analysis of the compositions of adhesive materials used by ancient inhabitants of southern China to secure decorative inlays on various artifacts. The analysis revealed that more than two millennia ago, local residents utilized linseed oil, as well as a special white wax derived from insects.
This white wax differs from the traditional Chinese wax that became known in subsequent historical periods. The results of this study were presented in the scientific journal Archaeometry.
