Serious unsanitary conditions were discovered at a well-known five-star hotel in the Indian capital, Delhi. Numerous issues with food quality and overall cleanliness were found, including the presence of cockroaches on the premises.
Due to the discovery of spoiled products, mold, and substandard oil, FSSAI revoked the license of Seven Seas Hospitality (M/s Seven Seas Hospitality Pvt. Ltd.).
The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) suspended the license of M/s Seven Seas Hospitality Pvt. Ltd. after identifying multiple violations of food safety and hygiene rules in New Delhi. During the inspection, problems ranging from poor cleanliness to the presence of rotten food and cockroaches were observed.
According to FSSAI, the sanitary condition of the facility was unsatisfactory. Water accumulation was found in food preparation areas. Furthermore, unpleasant odors, dirt, and poor facility maintenance were noted. Among the spoiled products found were tomatoes, papaya, maple syrup (good), and cashews, all of which had mold. Rotten bell peppers and substandard cooking oil were also found.
Deficiencies were also identified in food storage. Meat and vegetarian products were not stored properly and were mixed together. Condensation water from refrigeration units was dripping onto the food. Cockroaches and flies were also present on the premises. Additionally, issues with refrigerator leaks, inadequate ventilation and lighting, and unsuitable cold storage equipment were noted.
According to the food safety authority, approximately 74 kilograms/liters of food products that did not meet established standards were destroyed on-site during the inspection. Following the inspection, the food business operator was assigned a compliance score of only 30 percent and was categorized as 'Non-compliant.'
Given all these deficiencies, FSSAI immediately suspended the license of Seven Seas Hospitality. The company was ordered to cease all food-related activities during the license suspension period. This decision was made by FSSAI following multiple violations concerning hygiene, food storage, and facility infrastructure at the site.
