The Russian government has decided to extend the ban on diesel fuel exports. According to a government statement in a press release, this decision was made to maintain the stability of the domestic fuel market, especially considering the high demand during the agricultural harvest period.
The general ban on fuel exports from Russia remains in effect until January 31, 2027; however, producers of diesel fuel who were previously under restrictions have been exempted from these measures.
Fuel shortages, caused by Ukrainian drone attacks on Russian oil refineries, have negatively affected the supply of gasoline and diesel fuel across the country. This has led to price increases and long queues at gas stations.
Before the war in Ukraine, Russia was one of the world's largest exporters of diesel fuel. In 2022, before the Russian government prohibited the publication of information on diesel fuel exports, Russia produced about 85 million tons of diesel fuel annually, half of which was destined for export.
