A disturbance occurred at Duns University in the state of Uttarakhand on Monday evening when suspicion arose regarding the presence of insects in the food served at the Alkananda women's hostel cafeteria.
According to the female students, they discovered a crawling insect on a plate of salad, after which they refused to eat and began an active protest. Soon, the students started a demonstration on the university grounds and stood united against the custodian (culprit).
It became known that on Monday, the students from the Alkananda women's hostel went to the cafeteria as usual. During this time, one of the students noticed a crawling insect on a plate of salad. Following this, the students prohibited others from eating.
The students also complained about finding slugs along with insects in the food, which caused strong indignation. The protest, which started due to the quality of the food, quickly escalated into a mass demonstration. The students caused unrest on the university premises and began chanting slogans against the custodian. They stated that negligence regarding the quality of food in the hostel is constant.
The students demanded an inspection of the food quality and action against those responsible. After receiving information about the unrest, the university administration began negotiations with the students. The management provided guarantees to the students regarding clarification of the situation and resolution of their complaints.
However, since the students insisted on their demands for a long time, their protest subsided after several rounds of negotiations. According to the custodian Surekha Dangwal, there will be no compromises on the issues of food quality and hygiene in the hostel. An inspection of the cafeteria system will be conducted, and the process of annulling the current cafeteria tender will begin. The custodian also emphasized that ensuring quality food for students is the responsibility of the university administration. Complaints will be considered on a priority basis, and necessary improvements will be made to the cafeteria system.
Currently, the university administration has begun inspecting the cafeteria's operations. The initiation of the process to annul the current tender following the students' complaints clearly indicates that strict measures will be taken regarding food quality and cleanliness.
