Significant changes have been announced for holders of savings and salary accounts at the State Bank of India (SBI), which will come into effect from the next day, October 1, 2026, potentially increasing customer expenses.
According to SBI information, the new rules will apply to Basic Savings Bank Deposit (BSBD) accounts opened through bank branches. Customers will retain the ability to make four free cash withdrawals per month; however, after these four free transactions, each subsequent withdrawal via an ATM will incur a charge of 15 rupees plus GST.
The new restriction will only apply when more than four cash withdrawal transactions are made within one month. Therefore, customers who regularly use ATMs should carefully monitor the number of transactions.
Regarding SBI salary accounts, the monthly free limit will change starting October 1, 2026. Salary account holders will be able to perform only five transactions per month using their debit card at ATMs of other banks and Automated Deposit and Withdrawal Machines (ADWMs), whereas this limit was previously ten free transactions.
It is important to note that within the SBI ATM Rule Change, it was clarified that this new limit includes both financial and non-financial operations. This means that in addition to cash withdrawals, services such as balance inquiries or obtaining a mini-statement via an ATM are also counted towards this limit.
If a cash withdrawal occurs after exhausting the free limit, the sixth transaction in a month will cost 23 rupees plus GST. For non-financial transactions after reaching the free limit, a fee of 11 rupees plus GST will be charged.
