A shocking incident occurred in Bhadohi, Uttar Pradesh, where a pregnant woman was forced to give birth on the roadside after being denied hospitalization at the local district hospital. According to the mother, she was not admitted to the district hospital after seeking care, and labor occurred on the street while returning home.
After the woman began protesting the medical staff's negligence, the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) arrived at the scene, took the delivery woman mid-journey, and transported her to the district hospital for assistance. She is currently under medical observation.
The situation unfolded at Maharaja Chetasingh District Hospital in Gyanapur. A 20-year-old pregnant tribal woman came for delivery. Dr. Santosh Chak, Director of the District Health Administration, reported that he learned about the street birth near the hospital at 8:00 PM.
After giving birth, the woman headed home. Initial reports indicate that when the mother first approached the district hospital on Monday, her hemoglobin level was five grams, which was the basis for referring her to the Mirzapur district hospital.
The woman went to Mirzapur but then returned and re-visited the Gyanapur district hospital on Tuesday evening. There, staff consisting of a nurse and a doctor found her low hemoglobin level at five grams and referred her to the BHU. Since the woman and her relatives lacked education, they could not contact the emergency service 102 and started heading home, where the birth took place on the road.
It was reported that once the district head learned of the situation, ensuring the woman's hospitalization became a priority. She is currently receiving treatment and plasma infusion. It is promised that a full investigation will be completed within 24 hours, and strict measures will be taken against those responsible.
This case has raised serious questions about the state of medical services. The delivery woman, who identified herself as Rani from Jorai, stated that they came to the hospital, but the staff refused to conduct the delivery.
