World Heart Day: The Importance of Healthy Lifestyle and Prevention of Cardiovascular Diseases

World Heart Day is observed annually on September 29 to raise global awareness about cardiovascular diseases and encourage preventive measures. This year, the event is held under the slogan 'Don't Miss a Beat.'

This day provides an opportunity for people around the world to reaffirm their commitment to reducing preventable and premature deaths from cardiovascular pathologies.

On a personal level, adopting a heart-healthy lifestyle can significantly reduce the risk of developing cardiovascular problems. Key steps individuals can take to protect heart health include quitting tobacco, limiting salt intake, daily physical activity, and stress management.

In an interview with CGTN, Yan Yuejin, chief cardiologist at Fuwai Hospital, CAMS & PUMC, explained that emergency medications such as nitroglycerin and aspirin can play a significant role in treating suspected cardiac emergencies.

Elderly people and young people at high risk of cardiovascular diseases may be advised to keep such medications on hand, but the use of these drugs must be strictly according to a doctor's instructions.

As part of World Heart Day, CGTN is publishing two comics as a gentle reminder of the need to maintain a healthy lifestyle, take care of your heart, and not miss its rhythm.
