Today is the last day of September, and starting tomorrow, October 1st, a month marked by several significant transformations will begin. These changes may affect every family and wallet, as they cover a wide range of topics—from the prices of kitchen gas cylinders to cash withdrawal operations at ATMs.
Furthermore, an increase in the cost of purchasing various household appliances, including televisions, refrigerators, and air conditioners, is expected from October 1st.
The month begins with oil trading companies reviewing the prices of gas cylinders and publishing new tariffs. Changes in the price of an LPG cylinder may occur on October 1, 2026. Although adjustments have recently been made to the cost of commercial 19 kg cylinders, the prices for domestic 14 kg cylinders remain unchanged.
It is important to note that today, September 30th, is the last chance to complete necessary procedures related to LPG. Starting October 1st, users may find it more difficult to receive LPG subsidies if they have not completed authentication via biometrics or electronic identification (LPG eKYC), which has become a mandatory requirement. Additionally, from October 1st, an OTP-based LPG delivery service may start, requiring verification via an SMS message sent to the registered number, rather than just presenting a receipt.
Oil trading companies monthly, on the first day of the month, not only change LPG prices but also make adjustments to the cost of aviation fuel or turbine fuel (ATF). Any changes in this area affect air passenger costs. Currently, ATF prices in Delhi are 104,927 rupees per kiloliter, in Kolkata—109,450 rupees per kiloliter, in Mumbai—98,247 rupees per kiloliter, and in Chennai—109,873 rupees per kiloliter.
Substantial changes are expected for State Bank of India (SBI) customers starting October 1, 2026. Both savings account holders and salary recipients may face increased fees when withdrawing cash. Customers with Basic Savings Bank Deposit (BSBD) accounts opened through a branch will pay 15 rupees plus GST for each ATM withdrawal after four free transactions per month.
For salary recipients, the limit of free monthly transactions will be reduced from ten to five. After exceeding the free cash withdrawal limit, a fee of 23 rupees plus GST will be charged for each operation. For non-financial transactions after reaching the free limit, a fee of 11 rupees plus GST will be charged.
During the festive season, the purchase of home electronics may become more expensive. If you plan to purchase items such as televisions, refrigerators, or air conditioners, you should know that their prices may rise starting October 1st. According to a PTI report, the price increase is due to a sharp rise in the cost of key raw materials such as copper, steel, aluminum, and crude oil, as well as increased transportation costs. Price increases for these goods are estimated to reach 8%.
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) is making changes to Fixed Deposit (FD Rule Change) rules. These changes concern interest rates on FDs and take effect on October 1st. Under the new rules, banks are required to update FD interest rate information daily by 10 AM and display all details on their website. Furthermore, banks are mandated to provide uniform interest rates for deposits received on the same day, excluding any discrimination. The rule regarding differential interest on large deposits (run-off rates) will also change.
