OpenAI negotiates R$ 156.1 billion investment round, potentially reaching a valuation of R$ 7.3 trillion

OpenAI is in the process of negotiating to raise a minimum amount of US$ 30 billion, which is equivalent to about R$ 156.1 billion, in a new investment round. This financial injection has the potential to raise the company's valuation to approximately US$ 1.4 trillion, corresponding to about R$ 7.3 trillion, according to Bloomberg.

This potential fundraising comes just a few months after the company raised one of the largest sums ever recorded in the private sector. OpenAI expresses interest in using this new capital to continue its expansion while preparing for a future Initial Public Offering (IPO).

The round under review could serve as a 'bridge round', meaning a bridge round, preceding a potential Initial Public Offering. Although OpenAI has already begun preparations to list its shares, the organization does not plan to conduct the IPO immediately, having postponed this goal until after 2026. This strategy would allow OpenAI to consolidate its cash and finance its projects while remaining a private entity.

The need for financial resources is intrinsically linked to the high cost of developing and maintaining advanced artificial intelligence (AI) systems. To support its models and products, the company needs to significantly expand its computational infrastructure, which demands large-scale investments.

Internal Discussions and Market Valuation

The possibility of this new fundraising arises at a time when OpenAI is dealing with internal debates regarding the security and development of its systems. CEO Sam Altman has expressed concerns related to the inherent risks of AI.

This issue has gained relevance for the company as it continues to refine increasingly sophisticated models and increase the use of its systems. Furthermore, OpenAI is considering the ideal moment to enter the public market, taking into account both its financial demands and the technical challenges associated with technological advancement. Thus, this new round could grant the company more time to strengthen its operations before a possible stock market debut.

OpenAI did not provide comments in response to inquiries about the potential new investment round. It is important to note that the negotiations are still subject to changes, including the total amount raised and the valuation attributed to the company. If realized on the current terms, the operation would position OpenAI among the world's highest-valued private corporations, with a valuation close to US$ 1.4 trillion (approximately R$ 7.3 trillion).
