According to data published in PLoS Medicine, depression observed in women during pregnancy correlates with an increased likelihood that their children will subsequently require special educational services.
The study's authors suggest that part of this relationship may be due to the influence of antidepressants. However, there is a possibility that the observed correlation could have been distorted because these medications were prescribed to women who had a more pronounced form of depression.
