The Madhya Pradesh government has made a significant decision regarding ex-Agniveers. During the Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Mohan Yadav on Tuesday, it was decided to provide a 20 percent horizontal reserve when recruiting ex-Agniveers for positions in uniformed services.
These positions include police constable, special armed force, prison guard, forest worker, and excise department constable. Furthermore, plans and projects worth over 24,500 crore rupees aimed at the development and welfare of the state's population were approved.
In which departments will the reserve be for ex-Agniveers?
According to the Cabinet decision, the 20 percent horizontal reserve will be provided during recruitment into five uniformed departments. This horizontal reserve applies across various categories, including general, SC caste, ST caste, and other backward classes (OBC).
What is the Agnipath scheme?
The central government launched the Agnipath scheme in 2022. Under this scheme, Agniveer recruitment into the army, navy, and air force is for a four-year service period. As per the scheme's terms, up to 25 percent of Agniveers are retained in regular military service after completing their service, while the rest are discharged.
The Madhya Pradesh government's decision relates to employment opportunities for ex-Agniveers in the state's uniformed services after they complete their service.
Rs 5,329 crore allocated for guest teacher salaries
The Cabinet also made an important decision for the education sector. Funding amounting to Rs 5,329.17 crore has been approved for a five-year period from the 2026 to 2031 financial year to pay the salaries of over 76 thousand guest teachers in the state. Additionally, Rs 348.7 crore has been allocated to assist in purchasing uniforms for students attending government schools. This amount will be transferred directly to the bank accounts of students or their parents through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) mechanism for students in grades 1 to 8 in the 2026-27 academic year.
Rs 4,470 crore for Damoh-Katni expressway
Numerous proposals have also been approved for the development of road infrastructure and other facilities in the state, among which the construction of the Damoh-Katni expressway is key. The goal of these projects is to strengthen basic amenities and public services in the region.
Approval of irrigation projects for Singhasth 2028
Considering the Kumbh Mela event at Singhasth in Ujjain in 2028, the Cabinet also gave permission to continue the Kanh water diversion project. Furthermore, a decision was made to continue major irrigation projects in Datia, Nimcha, and Sagar. Developing basic infrastructure in Ujjain is crucial for preparations for Singhasth, and the continuity of irrigation projects should support agriculture and water resource management in the respective areas.
Decision on plans worth over Rs 24,500 crore
At the Cabinet meeting chaired by Mohan Yadav, over Rs 24,500 crore was approved for various plans and projects. These decisions cover areas such as employment, education, healthcare, road construction, rural development, and irrigation. The decision on the reserve for ex-Agniveers concerns establishing opportunities for them during recruitment, while the funds allocated for education and infrastructure will be spent on implementing the respective plans and construction works in the coming years.
