MultiChoice is offering a free seven-day trial of its new DStv Sports package, priced at 399 R, which provides subscribers temporary access to additional sports channels at no extra cost.
The testing of enhanced sports packages will begin on Tuesday, allowing subscribers to experience higher-level content without additional expenses. Under the new promotion, subscribers to the 399 R Sports package will automatically receive access to extra channels for seven days starting from activation.
After the trial period ends, the package will revert to its standard channel lineup that was launched earlier this month. Although MultiChoice has not disclosed the specific channels included in the trial, this move is expected to benefit both the broadcaster and its subscriber base.
Willington Ngwepe, CEO of MultiChoice (Pty) Ltd., stated: 'We told South Africans to expect more, and we meant it.' He added that the new packages are just the beginning, and the company will look for ways to provide customers with greater value from their DStv subscriptions. He also noted that Select package customers will be the first to benefit from this, and much more will be presented before the end of the year.
Despite the new standalone sports package being an affordable alternative for sports-focused viewers, it still falls short of the full DStv Premium offering. The package includes major competitions such as PSL football, Premier League (EPL), and UEFA Champions League, but some key broadcasts remain exclusive to higher subscription tiers.
Specifically, Springbok rugby, Formula 1, Proteas cricket, and golf are excluded from the package. For instance, golf enthusiasts will still need to subscribe to the flagship premium package for 799 R to watch major tournaments, as well as weekly PGA and European Tour events.
