Amid unrest surrounding the examinations, MPSC made an important decision: three exams were postponed, and the commission decided to re-evaluate the answers of 2025 candidates.
The Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC) announced the postponement of the State Service Main Examination 2026, which was scheduled for October 3. Additionally, the Maharashtra Civil Engineering Main Examination 2026 and the Maharashtra Group-B (Non-Gazetted) Main Examination were rescheduled. New dates for these tests will be announced by the commission later.
This decision was made during a period of ongoing dissatisfaction from applicants regarding the MPSC examination system. Students are raising concerns about the alleged leakage of materials in the narcotics inspector exam, as well as the conduct of the examinations by the commission.
MPSC reported that the request to postpone the State Service Main Examination 2026, originally set to begin on October 3, came from numerous students, parents, student organizations, and some respected elected representatives. Taking all these factors into account, the commission decided to postpone all three exams.
Furthermore, MPSC made a significant decision regarding the papers of the State Service Main Examination 2025: a re-evaluation of the answers will be conducted. The commission clarified that this followed objections raised by several student organizations and students themselves against the grading of the State Service Main Examination 2025. Consequently, the re-check is likely to cause delays in the examination process.
To analyze the current examination system, a high-level committee was formed under the chairmanship of senior official V. Radha. The committee held extensive discussions with various applicants and other stakeholders, and it is also studying best practices employed in different locations. According to the commission, the committee's recommendations for improving the examination system are expected to be presented soon.
The situation has also garnered attention from politicians. Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aditya Thakre mentioned that his party had approached Governor Jishnu Deva Verma demanding the postponement of the exams, and this demand was granted. He also expressed hope that the governor would call for the resignation of the MPSC chairman.
As of now, MPSC has not published new dates for the three postponed exams. Moreover, the re-evaluation of the State Service Main Examination 2025 papers may also cause delays in this part of the process. Thus, applicants must await the next announcement from the commission.
