Lexus has begun the international sale of the LY 680, a luxury yacht that is 68 feet (20.63 meters) long and can accommodate 15 occupants, equipped with Volvo Penta engines. This vessel will have its first public display in the United States during the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show, one of the world's largest nautical events, which will take place from October 28 to November 1 in Florida.
Although the Toyota luxury division has not yet disclosed the countries of sale, the price, or delivery times outside of Japan, the model was announced in 2024 as an evolution of the LY 650, Lexus's first produced yacht. Initially, orders for the LY 680 were only open in Japan, with local delivery expected from spring 2026 in the Northern Hemisphere.
With a length of 20.63 meters and a width of 5.76 meters, the yacht's size is comparable to more than four Lexus RX SUVs side by side. The main modifications compared to the previous model are concentrated in the living areas. The flybridge, which serves as the upper deck with the external helm station, has been extended by 1.40 meters and features a sofa and a barbecue grill.
Additionally, the stern swim platform has increased by approximately 70 centimeters, which improves water access and the use of jet skis. Below the main deck, there are three cabins designed to accommodate up to six people overnight, totaling a maximum capacity of 15 passengers. The internal tanks are sized to store 4,012 liters of fuel and 852 liters of potable water.
The boat's propulsion is guaranteed by a pair of Volvo Penta IPS engines, available in two configurations. The IPS 1050 option provides 800 horsepower per unit, totaling 1,600 hp. The IPS 1350 version offers 1,000 hp per engine, resulting in 2,000 hp in the set. The IPS system uses propulsion units installed under the hull, equipped with dual forward-facing propellers, allowing the vessel to be maneuvered via a joystick, which is advantageous during docking.
According to Lexus itself, the navigation provided is quiet and comfortable; however, the company chose not to disclose data on cruising speed, range, or consumption. The shipyard responsible for building the LY 680 is Horizon Group, based in Taiwan, while Lexus is responsible for the design and onboard experience. The brand mentioned that production follows adapted methods of the Toyota Production System, a management model developed by the Japanese automaker and currently employed by manufacturers in various industries worldwide.
