Meta Platforms has recruited Chirantan "CJ" Desai, the CEO of MongoDB, to head a new division focused on providing artificial intelligence tools from this social media company to corporate clients.
Following his appointment, which came after Desai's departure, MongoDB appointed Dev Ittircheri as interim CEO while the company searches for a permanent successor. The database software provider's shares fell by 18% during Monday morning trading as he leaves the leadership role after less than a year.
Brokerage firm Piper Sandler noted in its report that although the departure is disappointing, MongoDB maintains strong strategic positions, and they consider the stock price reaction excessive.
Meta announced on Monday that it will offer its AI models, agents, and enterprise tools to businesses through the new Meta Enterprise Platform. This platform includes products such as the recently launched Muse, the Meta Business Agent, and coding tools.
Muse was launched earlier this month as a personal AI agent capable of performing tasks like booking travel, making purchases, sending emails, and executing payments on behalf of users. This product quickly rose in the rankings of the Apple App Store and Google Play, and analysts called it potentially the biggest app launch in the US since ChatGPT in November 2022, which triggered the AI boom.
Desai will report directly to Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg in his new role as Chief Officer of the Enterprise Platform. His primary task is to transform the company's AI stack into ready-to-use products and services that enterprises can integrate into their operations.
Before joining MongoDB, Desai led products and engineering at Cloudflare and worked for nearly eight years at ServiceNow, including periods as president and chief operating officer. MongoDB provides business software for building and running applications, as well as tools for data management, search, analytics, and AI.
