In the Indian market, when it comes to seven-seater vehicles, models like Maruti Ertiga and Toyota Innova are primarily recalled. Kia Carens is also present among them. However, most of these cars remain inaccessible to buyers with limited budgets due to their high cost.
Nevertheless, after a long wait, Renault has released its popular seven-seater MPV, the Triber, in a turbocharged version in India. This model is distinguished not only by a more affordable price but also by a significantly more powerful engine.
The starting price for the new Renault Triber Turbo is set at 7.84 lakh rupees, while the top-end variant reaches 8.99 lakh rupees (excluding taxes). The Triber Turbo utilizes the same 1.0-liter turbocharged petrol engine found in the company's Kiger and Duster SUVs. Thanks to modifications in the engine management system, the Triber Turbo demonstrates greater torque compared to these SUVs.
Information about the Renault Triber Turbo first surfaced seven years ago, in 2019, but its release was postponed for several years. Now, the company has introduced this model to the Indian market. The cost of various Triber Turbo variants exceeds the standard petrol version by an amount ranging from 94,000 to 1.11 lakh rupees.
The Triber Turbo is equipped with a 1.0-liter, three-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine with the code HR10, which is also used in the Renault Kiger and Duster 1.0. The new engine control unit allows this unit to generate a peak torque of 180 Nm, making it more torque-powerful than the Kiger and Duster. Furthermore, the engine produces 100 hp.
Renault claims that the Triber Turbo can accelerate from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour in just 10.8 seconds. Currently, the car is offered only with a five-speed manual transmission, but the company plans to add a CVT automatic gearbox option in the future. The company also states that the new turbocharged petrol engine is capable of achieving a fuel economy of up to 21 km per liter.
The exterior appearance and design of the new Triber Turbo have not changed significantly compared to the standard model. A new Renault logo is placed on the glossy black grille at the front. The car is equipped with LED headlights and Daytime Running Lights (DRL). The lower part of the bumper features a large air intake with a silver trim and fog lights on the sides.
The rear of the car is fitted with transparent LED taillights connected by a glossy black trim. A new TURBO badge is placed on the tailgate, distinguishing this model from the standard petrol Triber. The side panels feature 15-inch two-tone wheels resembling alloy wheels. The vehicle also includes functional roof rails, and the door handles and rearview mirrors are finished in glossy black.
Efforts have been made to enhance the modern look of the Triber Turbo interior, although it retains the same functions as the petrol version of the Triber. The cabin features an 8-inch multimedia screen supporting wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity. Additionally, there is a 7-inch digital instrument cluster to display necessary information.
Moreover, the seven-seater vehicle is equipped with wireless phone charging, automatic climate control, separate ventilation control for rear passengers, a cooled central storage compartment, automatic headlights and wipers, rear washer and wipers, cruise control system, and a start/stop button.
After folding down the third-row seats, the trunk volume is 625 liters.
In terms of safety, the Triber Turbo has also received several important features. These include 6 airbags, ISOFIX mounts for child seats, ABS, EBD, ESP, traction control, hill start assist, and TPMS. The company has additionally tuned the ABS, ESC, and traction control systems to account for the characteristics of the turbocharged engine. Previously, the Renault Triber received a 4-star rating in Global NCAP tests.
Previously, consumers felt that the Triber offered a low-priced seven-seater solution, but its engine lacked sufficient power for long journeys or transporting heavy loads. However, the company has tried to alleviate this concern. In the market, the Triber will compete with models such as Maruti Ertiga, Nissan Gravita, and Toyota Innova. The arrival of this car adds a new option for customers seeking performance in the compact seven-seater MPV segment.
