French legend Franck Lebuaf believes that the transfer of Relobokhile Mofokeng, a former Orlando Pirates player, to Royal Union Saint-Gilloise will be a huge advantage for the South African national team, as he will bring invaluable European experience.
According to Lebuaf, who was a winner of the 1998 World Cup, the 21-year-old striker will face serious challenges at Royal Union Saint-Gilloise, but he is confident that this experience will ultimately benefit the South African national team.
Mofokeng quickly established himself at Orlando Pirates despite his young age. By the time of his departure in July, he had already played almost 100 matches for the Soweto Giants. His outstanding performances played a key role in helping Pirates interrupt the eight-year dominance of Mamelodi Sundowns in the Betway Premier League, finishing the season as league champions.
Lebuaf told IOL via Mr Gamble that the player will definitely gain European experience, and that retaining his talent and playing style will be very useful for the national team. He added that quick adaptation demonstrates character, personal qualities, and the ability to cope with any circumstances.
Lebuaf noted that the move from South Africa to Belgium represents a completely different experience, incomparable to moving from France to England, since Orlando Pirates is located in Johannesburg. He also explained that playing outside of South Africa will give young Mofokeng valuable life experience beyond football tactics.
Speaking about experience, Lebuaf shared his personal experience traveling in 2010, noting that it is a different life, a different culture, and a different view of the world. He expressed hope that Mofokeng will be happy, as happiness will allow him to continue scoring goals and being useful to the national team. Lebuaf concluded that having European playing experience is always a plus, and he is glad that the Belgian club signed Mofokeng and that everything is going well.
