According to an assessment by the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), lung cancer mortality can be reduced through the use of computer tomography (CT) screening with low radiation doses. This method also helps detect the disease in its early stages among high-risk individuals.
The IARC working group established that screening using low-dose CT is capable of reducing the probability of death from lung cancer by 16% among individuals in a high-risk group. Furthermore, this screening helps decrease the number of cases at advanced stages III or IV.
