Red alert declared in UAE due to heavy fog; Dubai temperature expected to reach 40°C

Residents of the United Arab Emirates can expect clear or partly cloudy weather on Sunday, September 27. According to the National Center of Meteorology (NCM), cloudiness is likely over the eastern regions.

By noon, these clouds may become convective, leading to precipitation. Overall, warm weather is expected across the country, with temperatures potentially reaching 43°C in some areas.

Abu Dhabi is forecast to reach up to 39°C, and Dubai up to 38°C; the minimum temperature in both emirates will be 29°C.

The National Center of Meteorology (NCM) issued a red alert regarding the fog, which is in effect from 23:00 on Saturday until 10:00 today.

The meteorological department noted that at night and in the morning on Monday, it will be humid in some coastal and inland areas, with the possibility of fog or haze formation.

Winds will be light to moderate, blowing from southeast to northeast at speeds of 10 to 20 km/h, occasionally reaching 30 km/h. Light wave action is expected in the Arabian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman.

Since autumn officially began in the UAE on September 23, the country is entering a period of gradual temperature decrease, although increased humidity and early morning fog are expected in the second half of autumn.

In the United Arab Emirates, predominantly clear weather with variable cloudiness is forecast for Saturday, September 26. However, rising humidity may lead to the formation of fog or haze in some areas during the night and morning on Sunday.

According to the National Center of Meteorology (NCM), general conditions will remain comfortable, although visibility may decrease in coastal and inland areas due to the formation of fog or haze.

Previously, on Friday, NCM issued a red-level warning for fog, advising residents to exercise caution when going outdoors. Residents traveling early on the weekend are advised to remain vigilant in areas affected by fog or haze and to follow all safety instructions related to visibility issued by the authorities.

Winds are expected to be light to moderate, blowing from southeast to northeast at speeds of 10 to 20 km/h, occasionally reaching 30 km/h.

The maximum temperature recorded in the country on Friday was 45.8°C in Al Ghweifat (Ad-Dhafra region) at 3:00 PM. On Saturday, the maximum temperature in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Sharjah will reach 42°C. The minimum temperature in Dubai and Abu Dhabi will be 27°C, and in Sharjah, 26°C.

The sea in the Arabian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman will remain calm, and no significant changes in marine conditions are expected.

According to forecasts, the weather on Tuesday, September 22, will be clear or partly cloudy, with a probability of convective clouds forming towards the evening in the eastern direction.

During the night and morning of Wednesday, an increase in humidity is expected in some coastal and inland areas, along with the possibility of fog or haze, according to the National Center for Meteorology (NCM).

A light to moderate southeast or northeast wind of 10–20 km/h will blow, occasionally increasing to 35 km/h. The sea in the Arabian Gulf and the Oman Sea will be calm.

Temperatures in the major cities of Dubai and Abu Dhabi are forecast to reach maximums of 38°C and 40°C, respectively, while the minimum temperature in both cities will be 29°C.

Furthermore, astronomical calculations announced by a high-ranking official indicate the start of the autumn season in the UAE on Wednesday, September 23. This new season will bring relief from summer heat to residents, starting at 4:05 AM when the constellations Gemini, Taurus, Leo, Sirius, Canopus, and Pleiades rise in the eastern sky.

Ibrahim Al Jarwan, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Emirates Astronomy Society and a member of the Arab Union of Astronomy and Space Sciences, reported that winter clouds will appear in mid-October, and the probability of precipitation will increase after mid-autumn.

The average maximum temperature at the beginning of the season will be 39°C and will drop to 26°C. In the middle of the season, around early November, highs of 31°C and lows of 18°C are expected. By the end of the season, the temperature will fall to 25°C and reach a cool 13°C, coinciding with the winter solstice on December 22.
