GIFT Nifty predicts sluggish opening, Kospi drops by 2%, Brent rises due to tensions between the US and Iran

According to data for Monday, September 28, 2026, the GIFT Nifty index signaled a possible negative opening for Nifty50, as global stock markets showed a decline while oil prices rose. GIFT Nifty futures traded at 23,118.50 points, which is 69 points lower.

Most Asian markets fell on Monday morning. This was due to rising energy costs, which overshadowed inflation forecasts and increased expectations of further interest rate hikes by the US Federal Reserve. The South Korean Kospi and China's CSI 300 fell by 2.07% and 1.24%, respectively.

On Friday of the previous week, the Dow Jones and S&P 500 indices closed higher: up 0.93% and 0.51%, respectively. The Nasdaq Composite index finished trading with a gain of 0.48%.

The price of Brent crude oil rose by more than 1% after Iran maintained its seven-day plan to resume operations in the Strait of Hormuz, in the absence of a specific response from Washington. September futures on the Intercontinental Exchange rose by 1.55% to $106 per barrel. Meanwhile, gold and silver futures fell by 1.77% and 2.92%, respectively.

Initial Public Offerings (IPOs)

Subscriptions for Initial Public Offerings (IPOs) of SRIT India and Shah Investor's Home will begin on Monday. In the SME segment, IPOs for Acme Universal Safezone 9, Shivchem Agro, and Pind Hospitality will open. The IPOs of Snapdeal, Orient Cables, German Green Steel, and Runwal Enterprises move to the second day of subscription. Additionally, the IPOs of Bench Mark, Shree TNB Polymers, Dudani Retail, Himalayan Solar, and Sai Urja Indo move to the second day of subscription. The final subscription day for IPOs will be held by Moneyview and A-One Steels, Green Asia Impex, Peshwa Wheat, and Roopa Screen.

US Stock Futures Decline

US stock futures fell on Monday morning as traders assessed the probability of a deal being reached between the US and Iran regarding hostile actions in West Asia. Dow Jones and S&P 500 futures dropped by 0.32% and 0.36%, respectively. On Friday of the previous week, the Dow Jones and S&P 500 indices closed higher: up 0.93% and 0.51%, respectively. The Nasdaq Composite index finished trading with a gain of 0.48%.
