Actress Shweta Tripathi, who played the character Golu Gupta, has been with this role for almost a decade and admits to developing a special attachment to this character. Following the commercial success of the film 'Mirzapur – The Movie,' Shweta discussed the franchise's impact on her career, the significance of such a response after years in independent cinema, and how she views her role as Golu despite nine years of experience.
In an interview with SCREEN, Shweta noted that the film collected over 300 million rupees worldwide, and she attributes this success to the large number of viewers who came to watch the movie. She emphasized that cinema ultimately depends on people deciding to come and watch it. According to her, even if something magnificent is created, it is useless if the audience does not want to see it, since it is created for them and shared with them.
Speaking about the film's box office collection, she mentioned that thanks to the way audiences came to 'Mirzapur,' they surpassed the 300 million rupee mark globally. The scale of this film's release is significantly different from her previous works. Shweta, who previously acted in films such as 'Masan,' 'Haramkhor,' and 'Gon Kesh,' recalled that some of these pictures were shown in only 100 or 300 theaters.
In contrast, 'Mirzapur' was screened in over 4000 screens, which she considers a victory. She added that everyone around her calls her 'Golu Didi.'
The actress also confirmed that her journey with this franchise is not yet over. She announced that another film is coming out, and the script for Season 4 is already under development. Furthermore, she stated that her connection to Golu will last for more than ten years.
Such long-term involvement in a project comes with certain acting challenges. Shweta explained that during these years, she personally and professionally developed and changed, while Golu's timeline progressed very slowly. She clarified that although the 'Mirzapur' journey spans over 10 years, for Golu, it might only be a two-year period. This is why she considers the process of 'unlearning' extremely important.
Shweta stressed that the personal and professional experience she gained over these years cannot be reflected in Golu, as no changes have occurred in the character of Golu. She specified that although her age has increased over these 10 years, Golu remains 22 years old. Therefore, she has to pay attention to both mind and body to play the same role for such a long time. She also mentioned that she deliberately avoids reading a large amount of praise for 'Mirzapur,' including reviews of the third season.
