A major scandal has erupted at Lovely Professional University (LPU) in Jalandhar due to rumors of sexual assault against a female student on the night of Saturday. The tension continued into Sunday when students staged a demonstration, blocking the highway. Significant damage was caused to university property during the protests, leading to the formation of a special investigation team (SIT). The police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) against unknown individuals.
The Aaj Tak team arrived at the women's hostel on Sunday to conduct an investigation and speak with students. Students are demanding an impartial and transparent investigation. Amidst the campus chaos, there is a claim that the alleged incident took place in room number 504. The Aaj Tak team went to Women's Hostel 3 and spoke with the students residing in room number 504. These students stated that no such incident occurred in their room, and they have no information about other rooms.
One of the students recounted that early in the morning, the police knocked on her room door and asked if she knew about such an incident. According to the student, the police did not search other rooms for verification. The students also complained about the warden, claiming they were not being provided with clear information. They insist that their room is being mentioned without basis and firmly state that the alleged incident in their room did not happen, demanding an objective investigation of the entire matter.
Meanwhile, Senior Police Officer (SP) Major Singh reported that the police are investigating the entire case. He clarified that the police have taken statements from the students. He added that police personnel have been on site since 2 AM trying to talk to the students, but the students refuse to meet with the police and management. The SP confirmed the registration of the FIR in the case. All aspects are being investigated, including the identity of the alleged victim, her residence, and the identity of the accused. Furthermore, he noted that action will be taken regarding the damage caused to university property.
In turn, the warden stated that the students suddenly started gathering, and he did not know where exactly the incident took place. He denies any such occurrence.
Lovely Professional University Registrar, Dr. Monika Gulati, stated through social media and other channels that the rumors are false, baseless, and fabricated. She informed that the university is aware that some antisocial elements are spreading completely false, baseless, and fictitious rumors through social media and other means. This is creating unnecessary confusion among students and an attempt to disrupt the peaceful academic atmosphere of the university. Dr. Gulati urged people not to believe these rumors, asserting that there is no truth in them.
