Pakistan Captain Babur Azam Fails to Perform in Home Matches Across Both Innings

The return of Pakistan national team captain Babur Azam to the home First-Class format was extremely disappointing. In the third round match of the President's Trophy Grade-I, Babur was unable to play a major innings in both innings. In the first innings, he scored 12 runs off 20 balls, and in the second innings, his batting yielded only 4 runs off 15 balls.

This match took place at the Cricket Abatabad stadium against Khan Research Laboratories. Babur played for Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL). After approximately seven years away from the home First-Class format, high expectations were placed on him for a big innings, but his bat remained silent in both matches.

In the first innings, Babur Azam was caught by fast bowler Arshad Iqbal on a short ball. Babur attempted to guide the ball towards mid-wicket, but due to an extra jump, he could not control the shot. The ball went into the air, touching the top edge of the bat, and was caught by a fielder standing at mid-wicket.

Babur also failed to perform in the follow-on. Khan Research Laboratories set a strong total of 398 runs in their first innings. In response, the Oil and Gas Development Company Limited team scored 217 runs in their first innings and was forced to follow on. In the second innings, Babur Azam had a chance to improve his game, but again could not stay on the field for long.

Fahim Ashraf dismissed Babur Azam via LBW after a good delivery. Babur tried to defend by moving forward, but missed completely, and the ball hit his pad. The umpire declared him out LBW.

Babur's poor performances in both home cricket innings have once again raised concerns about his form in Tests. His last century in Test cricket was scored in December 2022 in the first match of the home series against New Zealand. Since then, he has constantly struggled to score a big innings in this format.

Babur Azam was recently entrusted with the captaincy of the Pakistan team in Tests again. His first tenure lasted from 2020 to 2023. In May, Pakistan lost a two-match Test series against Bangladesh led by Shan Masud with a score of 0-2. Following this, Babur was entrusted with leading the Test team again.

Captain Shreyas Iyer clashed with the umpire during India vs Japan match

The T20 match between India and Japan in Sano turned out to be much more exciting than expected. Due to rain, the game was shortened to five overs, and India, batting first, scored only 32 runs.

After this, the Japanese team managed to create serious problems for the Indians, and the match went down to the final over. It was in this decisive moment that a tense drama unfolded, leaving everyone in attendance holding their breath.

The situation reached its peak tension in the final over. Japan needed only a few runs to win, and the pressure on the field was immense. Akshar Patel was bowling when umpire Chris Thorpe ruled that one of Akshar's balls was a wide.

The series of wides was already causing difficulties for the Indian team, and the umpire's decision caused strong disappointment for bowler Akshar Patel. However, the situation did not end there. Indian captain Shreyas Iyer lost his composure and immediately walked towards the umpire.

It was evident from the broadcast how angry Iyer was about the decision, and he expressed his dissatisfaction in a very aggressive manner. At such a critical moment in the game, awarding an extra run could have been fatal for India, and Iyer's anger was caused by this.

Considering the anger of the Indian team's captain and the pressure from the players, field umpires Chris Thorpe and Chris Brown held a discussion. Following this, a dramatic turn occurred: the umpires changed their initial decision and ruled the ball as valid. This review fundamentally changed the course of the match.

In this thrilling game, the Indian team maintained psychological resilience after the drama and managed to stop the runs scored in the last balls, thereby preventing Japan from winning. Ultimately, India won this intense confrontation by a margin of two runs. In the five-over match, India scored 32/4, while the Japanese team managed only 30/3.
