Protein Snack: Soy Flakes Recipe with Lemon and Garlic Instead of Toast for Breakfast

When a light hunger strikes in the evening, one often craves something spicy and savory, but most such snacks are not healthy. In this situation, soy flakes with lemon and garlic are an ideal combination of taste and health benefits, serving as an excellent source of protein. When prepared with fried garlic, green pepper, black pepper, and fresh lemon juice, the flavor becomes twice as rich.

This recipe is not only very simple to prepare but also ready in just 10 minutes. It is suitable for those following a diet as well as for a children's lunch. Below is the simplest and quickest instruction for its preparation.

The following ingredients are required for preparation: 1.5 cups of soy flakes (soy groats), 1.5 tablespoons of finely chopped garlic, 1 tablespoon of lemon juice, 1 tablespoon of butter or oil, 2 sliced green peppers, 1 small onion (finely chopped, optional), 1/2 teaspoon of ground black pepper, 1/2 teaspoon of crushed red pepper, 1/2 teaspoon of roasted cumin, salt and black salt to taste, as well as finely chopped fresh cilantro for garnish.

First, bring 3-4 cups of water to a boil in a pot, adding a little salt. Then add the soy flakes to the boiling water and cook for about 5 minutes. After that, turn off the heat, strain the soy flakes, and rinse them with cold water. Once they have cooled, squeeze them well by hand to remove excess moisture.

Heat oil or butter in a frying pan. Add the finely chopped garlic and green pepper and fry over low heat until lightly golden and fragrant. Then add the finely chopped onion and fry for another 1-2 minutes. After that, pour the boiled and squeezed soy flakes into the pan and fry over high heat for 3-4 minutes until slightly crispy.

Next, add the ground black pepper, chili flakes, roasted cumin, regular salt, and black salt to the mixture, stirring thoroughly so that the spices evenly coat the soy flakes. Turn off the heat and drizzle with fresh lemon juice, sprinkling with fresh cilantro. The finished hot, spicy, and savory soy flake mix can be served with evening tea or simply as a snack.
