Father of IIT Bombay student announces hunger strike at Azad Maidan until justice is served for Sahil

The parents of the late IIT Bombay student Sahil Wakode published a video appeal on social media. Sahil's father stated that he will begin a hunger strike at Azad Maidan on Monday. He was granted permission to hold a protest at Azad Maidan.

He emphasized that he is seeking justice in his son's case and will continue the fight for it. In his video appeal, Sahil's father noted that his son passed away, but he insists that the truth about this case must be revealed. He promised to continue his struggle until he achieves justice and is ready to fight regardless of his own life if necessary.

The father also appealed to students, asking them not to succumb to others' words and urging them to support him. He asked them to preserve any evidence related to Sahil, as it may be useful in court or during the investigation.

Furthermore, the father expressed dissatisfaction with claims that Sahil's parents are inactive. He reported that he repeatedly tried to contact the police but was denied entry. It was after this that he decided to go on a hunger strike at Azad Maidan.

He called on students to continue their protests and not give in to pressure. Despite losing his son, he wishes for the entire truth of the case to come out and for Sahil to receive deserved justice.

Student hunger strike in Prayagraj protesting TGT-PGT recruitment ends on the 19th day

The student hunger strike in Prayagraj, which had lasted for 18 days, concluded on the 19th day. The protesters demanded that recruitment for TGT-PGT positions be conducted according to the old rules. The hunger strike was interrupted by representatives of the Prayagraj administration who offered them juice.

Three days prior, the demonstrators left the picket site and staged a sit-in protest at the office of the education director. In the last three days, clashes have repeatedly occurred between the police and the student candidates.

Possibly, the hunger strike could have ended earlier after Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath mentioned writing a letter to Education Minister Gulab Devi in NCTE during the contract signing ceremony on Tuesday. Consequently, after receiving directives from the government, Prayagraj Director Manish Kumar Verma and Police Commissioner Piyush Mordia ended the hunger strike by offering them juice and promising them an opportunity.

The contesting students claim that the Education Recruitment Commission suddenly changed the TGT-PGT recruitment rules in 2025. Due to these changes, about 700 thousand contesting students were excluded from the process without taking exams. This is why the contesting students continued to protest, putting pressure on the government.

IIT Bombay faculty support Professor Dulla following student's suicide

The IIT Bombay faculty forum spoke in support of Professor Suryanarayana Dulla on Monday after the institute removed him from his position as Dean of Administration amid protests related to the death of 22-year-old student Sahil Wakode.

Faculty Forum Expresses Support

The chairman of the faculty forum, Professor Rajkumar S Pant, stated in an official declaration that, contrary to reports from some media outlets, Professor Suryanarayana Dulla was not suspended from service at IIT Bombay and remains a member of the institute's faculty in good standing.

Dulla Mentioned in Incident Report

IIT-Bombay immediately removed Dulla from the position of Dean of Administration after the protests began following Wakode's death. Professor Dulla is mentioned in the First Information Report (FIR) filed based on the student's family complaint.

The student's death triggered a wave of protests on the IIT-Bombay campus. Students accused the institution of academic pressure, caste discrimination, and institutional harassment. On Monday, police detained members of the Youth Congress who were demonstrating near the gates of IIT-Bombay. Furthermore, security was increased within and around the campus due to the protests.

IIT-Bombay Apologizes for Previous Statement

The institute issued a public apology after students accused it of 'defaming' Wakode without conducting a detailed investigation. As part of the protests, IIT-Bombay announced an Open Day with student participation on Monday in the Ceremony Hall. Students were invited to submit their questions through a special form, which will be discussed during a moderated session. This interaction is expected to give students an opportunity to voice their demands and concerns directly to the institute's management.
