Wardrobe organization methods: how to store clothes in a small space

As late September approaches and October begins, a slight chill sets in. During this period, although heavy jackets and sweaters are not yet necessary, there is a need for denser clothing. Jackets, jeans, sweaters, and warm items take up more space, especially if the closet is already full, which makes it difficult to find the right clothes every morning.

Therefore, it is crucial to organize the wardrobe along with the change of season. Summer light clothing should be removed and replaced with items suitable for cool weather. Summer clothes should be stored inside the bed so they can be easily retrieved next year. This will help save space and ensure quick access to necessary items.

Although organizing the contents of a closet may seem like a complex task, using the right methods and tricks, you can effectively manage space. Below are simple ways to organize your wardrobe.

How to organize a wardrobe

The first step to tidying up the closet is to empty it completely. You need to take out all the clothes, thoroughly clean the shelves, drawers, and corners from dust. Before putting things back, wipe the closet with a dry cloth, and use a vacuum cleaner if necessary.

Next, separate work clothes. Summer items should be set aside to determine which ones might be useful next year. Clothes that haven't been worn for a long time, are very outdated, or do not fit should be separated. Instead of throwing away damaged items, they can be donated to those in need, which will reduce the amount of excess clothing in the closet.

It is important to store clothes only after washing them. After the season ends, you cannot simply put clothes into bags or boxes. They should be washed and completely dried. Clothes that were sweaty or had stains in the summer must be thoroughly cleaned, otherwise, unpleasant odors may develop during long-term closed storage.

Prepare warm clothes in advance. Sweaters, scarves, thermal underwear, warm tunics, and other winter items need to be taken out and checked. Separate any items that have become smaller or damaged. This will also help determine what needs to be purchased in the new season. To eliminate odors, warm items should be exposed to sunlight.

Do not hang sweaters on hangers

Hanging heavy sweaters for a long time on hangers causes them to sag on the shoulders, and the fabric can stretch. Therefore, they should be folded into drawers, boxes, or onto shelves. Using shelf dividers will prevent items from mixing.

Place everyday clothes in a visible place. Clothes used daily during this season should be in the most accessible spot in the closet. Summer clothes can be put on upper shelves or in special storage containers. This will avoid the need to constantly rummage through the entire closet when getting ready in the morning.

Use storage boxes and hooks.
