The Club Med South Africa Beach & Safari Resort officially opened on September 17, 2026. The first guests arrived on July 4, 2026, when the resort doors at Tinley Manor, located on the northern coast of KwaZulu-Natal, were opened.
Before the ribbon-cutting ceremony, management from Tinley Leisure and Club Med, as reported by IOL Leisure, had the opportunity to inspect the resort and its offerings. Guests are advised to book accommodation for a minimum of three days to fully experience what Club Med South Africa has to offer.
The Club Med Experience Starts at the Airport
The stay experience at Club Med begins not directly on the resort grounds, but at King Shaka International Airport, where staff greet guests and tag luggage for delivery to their rooms. The drive to Club Med South Africa takes about 20–30 minutes, though this time may feel longer due to excitement.
When IOL Leisure visited the resort a year ago, unfinished construction structures were still present. Now, the vision is fully realized, and it was pleasant to see everything that was described during the initial inspection of the property. Upon arrival, guests are greeted warmly, in the spirit of South Africa, with a marimba group performance and singing.
Registration with a South African Flair
Group registration is smooth thanks to a dedicated staff member who welcomes groups, and room keys are prepared in advance. Club Med room keys differ from standard cards; instead, wristbands are used throughout the stay for access to the room and other hotel amenities. The Club Med South Africa wristbands have a distinct South African accent and are made of colorful beadwork.
A 32-Hectare Oceanfront Resort
The resort is quite extensive—it covers 32 hectares of coastal land. Depending on the room location, significant walking is required. This is beneficial for meeting step goals, but golf carts are available for those who prefer not to walk during their vacation. The Club Med culture encourages an active lifestyle, group activities, and sustainable practices, such as the absence of bottled water in rooms; instead, water coolers are installed on the ground floor of every building.
Pools for the Whole Family
The beach resort features four pools, including areas designated for adults and family recreation. The adults-only pool, known as Zen Pool, is an infinity pool overlooking the KwaZulu-Natal Dolphins coast—an ideal spot for Instagram photos. The resort is designed for all family members, and the Kids' Club serves as a mini-paradise for toddlers. Little travelers have their own pool area and entertainment facilities that will make them want to stay there all day.
Since parents also need personal time even on vacation, the Kids' Club allows children to attend a day of fun supervised activities led by qualified G.Os (Gentils Organisateurs). The Kids' Club is divided into age groups: Baby Club Med (4–23 months), Petit Club Med (2–3 years), and Mini Club Med (4–10 years), each with tailored programs. It should be noted that Baby Club Med and Petit Club Med are optional services requiring payment, subject to availability and prior booking, whereas Mini Club Med is included in the resort participation fee.
From Surfing to Flying Trapeze
The resort offers numerous activities, including a wide range of land and water sports. Guests can learn surfing at the first Club Med surf school in South Africa, engage in sailing, try paddleboarding, participate in yoga, or experience the brand's signature flying trapeze. The 'all-inclusive' package is not limited to food, as some activities, such as dancing and yoga classes, are included in the package.
A Touch of Luxury in iLanga
For those preferring a higher standard of living, the exclusive iLanga Collection is available, offering spa treatments and a private pool area.
Food with a South African Taste
The restaurants serve dishes featuring South African and regional ingredients, alongside the signature Club Med dining style found at other resorts. Guests can choose between the Oceana and Nguni restaurants. Oceana is suitable for family meals, while Nguni is for those wishing to indulge. By the end of the second visit to Nguni, the staff already knew our orders by heart.
Staff: The Heart of Club Med
The resort staff is the heart of Club Med South Africa. It is impossible to pass by anyone without receiving a greeting or an offer to take a golf cart ride. Employees work throughout the day and then come alive at night, hosting wonderful evening events at the resort.
Don't Expect to Stay in Your Room
The resort program is designed to keep guests active and make the stay as engaging as possible. From a white party in the garden that continues late at the Dune Beach Bar, to the 'Welcome to South Africa' event with a spectacular show and DJ set—something is always happening after sunset. The latter will get you dancing on the dance floor. At Club Med South Africa, you can arrive alone but leave having made new acquaintances and exchanged contacts with people you hope to meet again.
From Beach to Safari
Club Med South Africa Beach & Safari adds an element of exclusivity to the KwaZulu-Natal coast. Travelers can enjoy the beach while simultaneously experiencing the province's safari. Guests can split their stay between Tinley Manor and Vikela Safari Lodge, which is located in the private Mpilo Game Reserve. The safari experience is an optional add-on and must be booked separately at the guest's own expense. This allows guests to enjoy the best of both worlds, moving from the beach to the bush without leaving KwaZulu-Natal.
Is Club Med South Africa Worth the Splurge?
Club Med South Africa Beach & Safari offers a comprehensive set of experiences and will undoubtedly attract international tourists to the province. The Club Med South Africa Beach & Safari Resort is an exclusive place to stay and does not offer day passes. Guests are required to book accommodation for a minimum of three nights to enjoy the full all-inclusive resort experience. Prices vary depending on the season and can range from R39,020 for a three-night stay for two adults and one child. However, it should be noted that this type of vacation might not fit the average budget of a South African tourist. For local travelers wishing to visit the resort, it could be one of those holidays worth saving up for and planning ahead, especially if traveling as a family. Nevertheless, thanks to the all-inclusive system, you can enjoy food, selected activities, and entertainment without constantly worrying about expenses. For the author, Club Med South Africa represents a different kind of vacation in KwaZulu-Natal, combining beach, family leisure, wellness, entertainment, luxury, and safari in one place.
