UAE Wins Silver in Men's 400m Race at Asian Games

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) won the silver medal in the men's 400-meter race. Suleiman Abdulrahman finished with a time of 44.99 seconds, trailing Joshua Atkinson from Thailand by only 0.09 seconds, who took first place with a time of 44.90 seconds.

Emmanuel Bamideli also participated in the final, recording a time of 45.97 seconds.

Major General Dr. Mohammed Abdullah Al Murr, President of the UAE Athletics Federation, congratulated Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, as well as the leadership and people of the UAE on achieving the country's first medal at the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games.

Dr. Al Murr noted that the silver medal feels like gold, given the high level of competition and the extremely small margin separating him from the winner. He emphasized that Suleiman's performance demonstrated how the UAE wishes to present itself on the continental and international athletics stage.

Al Murr also highlighted that the achievements of young UAE athletes strengthen confidence in the future of the country's athletics. According to him, investing in young talent is key to nurturing a generation capable of competing for medals at world and continental levels. He added that the current successes are the result of continuous work and investment, and they plan to build upon these results in the next phase, striving to put the UAE flag on the podium.

The men's 400-meter race was attended by Faris Mohammed Al Mutawa, Secretary-General of the UAE Olympic Committee; Noura Al Jasmi, Member of the Board of Directors of the UAE Olympic Committee; Major General Dr. Mohammed Abdullah Al Murr, Member of the Board of Directors of the UAE Olympic Committee and President of the UAE Athletics Federation; and Jamila Abdulrahman, Member of the Board of Directors of the UAE Athletics Federation.

In equestrian sports, Ali Halfan Al Jahouri and Bianca Schutze advanced to the individual dressage final at the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games after placing in the top 15 pairs based on two qualification rounds. Al Jahouri, riding the Lotus-S, scored 65.706% in the second qualification round, bringing his total score to 132.736. Schutze and Le Grand Ayden HB scored 66.059% with a total score of 132.706. Mohammed Jassim Al Serkal and Zen Liquidity scored 63.470%, reaching a total score of 127.235, while Natalie Lancaster and Tesla DXB received 61.824% with a sum of 122.648.

Al Jahouri and Schutze will compete in the individual freestyle final to music, becoming the first two UAE riders to qualify for an individual freestyle final together at one Asian Games.

In archery, UAE athletes participated in individual, team, and mixed team competitions. Khalifa Al Kaabi scored 643 points in the men's individual recurve qualification, while Aisha Al Ali recorded 624 points, Hessa Al Awadi scored 600, and Houda Al Ali scored 539 in the women's individual recurve qualification.

In the women's recurve team tournament, the UAE trio consisting of Aisha Al Ali, Hessa Al Awadi, and Houda Al Ali scored a total of 1763 points. In the women's compound team tournament, Amna Al Awadi scored 691 points, Jumana Al Najjar scored 675, and Maita Al Nuaimi scored 626, giving the UAE team a total of 1992 points.

In the men's compound team tournament, Abdullah Al Mansouri scored 668 points, Sultan Al Menhali scored 665, and Yusuf Al Hosani scored 645, resulting in the UAE team scoring a total of 1978 points.

In the mixed team events, the compound pair consisting of Amna Al Awadi and Abdullah Al Mansouri scored 1359 points, and the recurve pair featuring Khalifa Al Kaabi and Aisha Al Ali scored 1267 points.

In archery, Sheikh Mohammed bin Dalmuk Al Maktoum and Yahya Suhail Al Muhairi will begin the first day of the men's target qualification, while Mariam Karim will participate in the women's 400-meter barrier run qualification in athletics.

The UAE men's foil team, including Khalifa Al Zarani, Hamdan Al Jadhami, Mohammed Al Mazmi, and Saleh Al Balushi, will participate in the fencing team tournament.

In equestrian sports, Ali Halfan Al Jahouri and Bianca Schutze will compete for the individual freestyle dressage final after qualifying in the top 15 pairs. Meanwhile, Abdullah Al Zubaydi and Marwa Al Hammadi will participate in the ILCA 4 class in sailing.

The UAE men's compound archery team, comprising Abdullah Al Mansouri, Yusuf Al Hosani, and Sultan Al Menhali, will face India in the 1/16 finals, while the women's team, including Jumana Al Najjar, Maita Al Nuaimi, and Amna Al Awadi, will play South Korea in the same round.

Amna Al Awadi and Abdullah Al Mansouri will face China in the 1/16 finals of the mixed compound team tournament, while Khalifa Al Kaabi and Aisha Al Ali will compete in the mixed recurve team tournament.
