A young man from the Karnal district of Haryana state, Nitin Kumar, has achieved significant success in the world of rowing, bringing pride to all citizens of the country. He accomplished this despite initially having no connection to rowing when he joined the Indian Army as an Agniwar in 2023.
His athletic talent was noticed during training at one of the regimental centers in Delhi. Army officers recognized the potential of this young man as an outstanding athlete, after which the Indian Army provided him with opportunities for further development.
Intensive training at Army sports units prepared Nitin for international-level competitions, improving his physical condition and knowledge of the sport's intricacies.
At the young age of 19, Nitin made history through his own efforts. He demonstrated brilliant results in domestic competitions. In 2025, he won a gold medal at the Khelo India Water Sports Games.
In the same year, he also won a bronze medal at the 42nd Senior Indian Rowing Championship. In 2026, by winning another gold medal at the 43rd Senior Indian Rowing Championship, he established himself among the country's top rowers.
Following these domestic victories, Nitin stepped onto the international stage. In 2026, he represented India at the World Rowing Championships held in Belgium. He then participated in the 20th Asian Games in Japan, where, along with his teammate, Indian rower Jaswinder Singh, he secured seventh place in his first continental competition.
