Candidates preparing for the Combined Graduate Level Examination 2026 by the Staff Selection Commission (SSC) have faced a significant change. The commission has reduced the number of recruitment posts. Originally, the notification released in May indicated recruitment for 12,256 posts, but according to the notice issued in September, the estimated vacancies have decreased to only 10,731. This reduction has caused concern among applying students, as it directly reflects a cut of 1525 posts.
The distribution of vacancies across different categories is as follows: 4,412 posts for General (UR), 2,772 posts for OBC, 1,028 posts for EWS, 1,715 posts for SC, and 804 posts for ST, totaling 10,731 posts.
Of these sanctioned posts, the highest number, 3,687, are in the Central Board of Indirect Taxes. These include 2366 posts for Inspector (Central Excise), 42 posts for Inspector (Examiner), 340 posts for Executive Assistant, 98 posts for Inspector (Preventive Officer), and 841 posts for Tax Assistant. Additionally, there are 2,421 posts in the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT), which include 595 posts for Inspector Income Tax, 426 posts for Office Superintendent, and 1400 posts for Tax Assistant.
The examination for these posts will be conducted from September 30th to October 30th. This exam will be held in computer mode in different shifts. According to the notice issued by the commission, candidates will be able to download their admit cards four days before the examination.
