Iranian Basketball Team Wins Bronze Medal at Asian Games in Nagaok

The Iranian women's basketball team in the 3x3 discipline secured two victories at the 2026 Asian Games on Monday.

The 'Melli' team first defeated Uzbekistan with a score of 19:5 at the Kinjo Futo Station Square Venue, and in the second match, they won against the host nation, Japan, with a score of 18:16.

Mahla Abedi was the top scorer for the Persians, scoring eight points, while Japanese athlete Yuki Hirashita recorded five points.

As part of the women's 3x3 basketball tournament at the 2026 Asian Games, held in Nagoya, Aichi Prefecture, Japan, from September 10 to 20, Iran will face Taipei from China in Group B on Tuesday. The tournament is limited to players under the age of 23.

The Iranian men's basketball team defeated China with a score of 79-70 on Sunday, securing a bronze medal at the 2026 Asian Games held in Nagoya, Japan.

In the match, Iran was led by Matin Aghajanour, who scored 21 points, while Zhenlin Pan from China finished the game with 22 points, which was the best performance for a Chinese player in the game.

Previously, the Iranian men's national team had not won a gold medal in basketball at the Asian Games. The Melli team had previously won silver medals twice in a row in 2014 and 2018, as well as three bronze medals in 1951, 2006, and 2010.

The final for gold will be between Japan and South Korea. The men's 5-on-5 basketball tournament at the 2026 Asian Games will take place in Kita-ku, Nagoya, Aichi Prefecture, Japan, from September 10 to 20.
