European researchers analyzed a large volume of wood extracted during underwater surveys at the ancient settlement Lin-3, located in Albania. Using dendrochronological and radiocarbon dating methods, scientists were able to confirm that this settlement is the earliest known pile settlement in Europe.
According to the results, the Lin-3 settlement appeared approximately in 5800 BCE and existed intermittently for about two millennia. Information about these discoveries is presented in a preprint article posted on the SSRN.org platform.
