Eight years have passed since the launch of the Ayushman Bharat program, and it has achieved its goal of providing accessible and quality medical care to the population. Currently, the scheme covers over 600 million beneficiaries, with more than 130 million people utilizing treatment amounting to over 2 lakh rupees through more than 39,000 accredited public and private hospitals.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, marking this eighth anniversary in an X post, stated that Ayushman Bharat has transformed healthcare access for millions of people and called it the world's largest health insurance program. He emphasized that over 600 million people have an annual medical policy worth 5 lakh rupees and noted that the program has helped lower and middle-class families save on medical expenses.
Modi also highlighted the expansion of access to medical services closer to the people through Ayushman Arogya Mandirs, which have registered over 500 billion visits. He stated that this path demonstrates the government's commitment to ensuring accessible and affordable healthcare.
Sharing the latest data, Health Minister J.P. Natta reported that over 600 million people are included in the program, and more than 48.5 billion cards have been created. He specifically highlighted the humanitarian significance of these figures, noting that families are protected from the burden of medical expenses, patients receive timely treatment, and households can manage illnesses without fear of financial distress.
