The National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet) issued a red warning of great danger regarding a heatwave that will extend across several regions of South-Central Brazil. This alert begins on Saturday, the 26th, and remains valid until 6 PM next Wednesday, the 30th.
The red warning covers at least parts of eight Brazilian states. This alert level corresponds to the highest degree on the scale used by Inmet. This will be the first heatwave predicted for spring, which began the previous Tuesday, the 22nd, and there is a projection that this event will occur more frequently in subsequent months.
Spring functions as a transition period between the dry and rainy phases in much of Brazilian territory. During this season, precipitation tends to gradually return to the Midwest and Southeast, while temperatures begin to rise after winter.
Meteorological Analysis
According to César Soares, a meteorologist from Climatempo, in an interview given to g1, although the start of this season is deviating from the usual pattern observed during September, the forecast points to a spring with temperatures above average.
Soares also mentioned that due to the expectation of an intense El Niño, climatic conditions favor the occurrence of heatwaves and irregularities in the rainfall regime.
Locations expected to have the highest incidence of heat include northern Minas Gerais, northern Goiás, Mato Grosso, the interior of the Northeast, Tocantins, Pará, eastern Amazonas, and Roraima. In these specific areas, there is a possibility of recording several days with temperatures exceeding 40°C.
