Prepare a Spicy High-Protein Black Lentil Soup That Cooks Quickly

When you don't feel like eating heavy food like bread with vegetables or dal with rice in the evening, there is often a desire to eat something light, quick to prepare, and healthy. In such a situation, a spicy high-protein soup made from cooked and mashed black lentils is an ideal choice.

Black lentils, rich in protein and fiber, not only support digestive system health but also help control weight. This soup, seasoned with the spicy aroma of cumin, garlic, asafoetida, and black pepper, is so delicious that both children and adults will want to enjoy it. Below is a very simple recipe for this nutritious and tasty soup.

Ingredients

For preparation, you will need: 1 cup of black lentils (soaked and boiled overnight), 1 tablespoon of clarified butter or butter, 1 teaspoon of cumin, 1/4 teaspoon of asafoetida, 4-5 cloves of garlic (finely chopped), 1 inch of ginger (grated), 1 green pepper (finely chopped), 1 onion (finely chopped), 1/2 teaspoon of ground cumin, 1/2 teaspoon of ground black pepper, 1/2 teaspoon of chaat masala, 1 tablespoon of lemon juice, salt and black salt to taste, as well as freshly chopped green dill for garnish.

Instructions

Mash 3/4 of the cooked black lentils (adding a little lentil water) in a blender until you get a completely smooth puree. Set aside the remaining 1/4 of the whole cooked lentils.

In a frying pan or pot, heat the clarified butter or butter. Then add the cumin, asafoetida, finely chopped garlic, ginger, and green pepper, frying for one minute until a pleasant aroma appears.

Next, add the finely chopped onion and fry until lightly golden. After this, add the black lentil puree and the remaining whole lentils to the pot. Mix them together with the ground cumin, ground black pepper, chaat masala, regular salt, and black salt, stirring thoroughly.

Add 2-3 cups of boiled lentil water (or regular water) to the mixture. Simmer the soup over medium heat for 5-7 minutes so that all the spices fully release their flavor. When the soup becomes thick and aromatic, turn off the heat. Add fresh lemon juice and green dill on top.

Serve the hot spicy black lentil soup in a bowl.
