The Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the International Organization for Migration (IOM) announced on September 4 the launch of a partnership aimed at strengthening sanitary safety in the border areas of Uzbekistan and Tajikistan.

This initiative is designed to improve the effectiveness of both countries' response to the needs of residents in border territories, as well as to people crossing the border.

The partnership will focus on enhancing interagency cooperation between the two states, improving epidemiological surveillance systems, and improving information exchange.

Representatives from the ministries of health, sanitary-epidemiological services, migration, and customs authorities of Uzbekistan and Tajikistan participated in the online meeting dedicated to the start of this initiative. Experts from ADB and IOM also attended the discussions.

The new partnership will support the implementation of the Central Asia Regional Economic Cooperation (CAREC) Strategy for healthcare until 2030.
