GIFT Nifty fell by more than 100 points; Asian markets show mixed dynamics amid global bond sell-off

GIFT Nifty signaled a possible decline in the Nifty50 index opening, as the sell-off in global bonds weakened risk appetite. Asian markets showed mixed results on Thursday morning.

According to data from September 24, 2026, most global markets recorded losses after the rise in global bond yields, which was caused by concerns about further interest rate hikes in the US. GIFT Nifty futures traded at 23,268.50, down by 182 points.

Asian-Pacific markets traded with mixed performance on Thursday morning. Japan's Nikkei 225 and South Korea's Kospi rose by 1.47% and 0.9%, respectively. Meanwhile, China's CSI 300 and Hong Kong's Hang Seng fell by 0.73% and 0.68%.

Overnight, the yield on the benchmark 10-year US Treasury bond jumped by 15 basis points to 5.11%. This was the largest single-day jump since Trump announced tariffs in 2025, according to Bloomberg. Robust economic data and hawkish statements from US Federal Reserve Chairman Michael Barr led to increased bets on further monetary policy tightening in the near future.

US Treasury yields rose amid growing expectations of the start of a rate hike cycle. The Dow Jones and S&P 500 closed lower by 0.68% and 0.75%, respectively, while the Nasdaq Composite finished trading down by 1.13%.

Brent crude oil futures traded above the $100 per barrel mark during Asian trading hours, despite a partial retreat from the previous session's gains. September futures were valued at $102.57, which is 0.82% lower on the Intercontinental Exchange. Gold futures remained unchanged, while silver futures fell by 0.79%.

Initial Public Offerings (IPOs)

On Thursday, subscriptions open for Initial Public Offerings (IPOs) of Moneyview, A-One Steels, Green Asia Impex, Peshwa Wheat, and Roopa Screen. On the mainboard section, the second day of subscription opens for IPOs of Adroit Industries, Elevate Campuses, Swastika Infra, and ArMee Infotech. In the SME segment, the second day of subscription opens for Unitec Fibres, S.K.Offset, Liqvd Digital, Pooja Logistics, and Coreintegra Consulting. The last day of subscription will be for the IPOs of Varmora Granito, Anand Seamless, and Himalaya Nutravedics.

Brent crude oil prices fell by more than 1% as traders anticipate a recovery in supplies from Saudi Arabia despite ongoing attacks. September futures traded at $101.74, down 1.41%. Gold and silver futures also decreased by 0.24% and 0.09%, respectively.

IPOs Today

Initial Public Offerings (IPOs) for Robokidz Eduventures and FX Multitech will open for subscription on Monday. The IPO of Axiom Gas Engineering will enter its second day of subscription. Additionally, the National Stock Exchange (NSE) IPO opens on its final subscription day. Similarly, the IPOs of Sonaselection India, SpectraA Technology Solutions, and Kheria Autocomp are also in their final day.

IPO Listings Today

During Asian trading, US stock futures rose amid positive negotiations between US Secretary of State Scott Bessent and Vice Premier He Lifeng. Dow Jones and S&P 500 futures increased by 0.28% and 0.33%, respectively. Last Friday, the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell by 0.18%, while the S&P 500 rose by 0.17%, with the Nasdaq Composite closing higher by 0.39%.

On Thursday, the Dow Jones and S&P 500 indices closed down by 0.6% and 0.58%, respectively, while the Nasdaq Composite finished the session down by 0.65%. The yield on the benchmark 10-year US Treasury bond hovered around the 5% mark, settling at 4.95% on Thursday.

Oil prices lost previously achieved gains after approaching the nearly $110 per barrel mark due to escalating tensions in the Middle East, impacting supply forecasts. Furthermore, Saudi Arabia informed OPEC that its oil production for the last month decreased to its lowest level since 1990. September futures on the International Exchange traded at $107.8 per barrel, down 1.09%.

Gold and silver futures declined by 0.84% and 1.5%, respectively, as interest rate hike expectations by the US Federal Reserve increased following data showing growth in the producer price index last month and revised July data.

Initial Public Offering Today

On Friday, subscriptions will open for Initial Public Offerings (IPOs) of Manika Plastech, Injecto Polymers, and Century Business Media. The second day of subscription will be open for IPOs from Veegaland Developers, Maharaja & Speedex, Om Galaxy, Raksan Transformers, and Panchatv Bharat. In the main market segment, the final subscription day for IPOs from Rentomojo, Asset Reconstruction, Manipal Payment & Identity Solutions, Steamhouse India, LCC Projects, and Karamtara Engineering.

In the SME segment, the final subscription day will also begin for Infrax Renewable, Vinod Texworld, and Amtech Esters.

According to updates, Sensex opened 704 points or 0.94% lower at 74,198 points due to surges in oil prices and bond yields. Nifty was at 23,270 in pre-market trading, which was 207.50 points or 0.88% lower. In pre-market trading, Sensex fell by 593 points or 0.79% to 74,308.

The Rupee opened weaker against the US dollar, dropping 24 paisa to 95.69 from 95.45 at the end of Thursday, according to Bloomberg data. Wipro's CTO stated that the company's AI initiatives have boosted productivity equivalent to the output of 20,000 employees who were redeployed within the Indian IT company.

Vodafone Idea, State Bank of India, Texmaco Rail and Engineering, Punjab National Bank, HDFC Bank, YES Bank, and oil marketing companies are in focus for Friday's trading session.

GIFT Nifty at 23,333

GIFT Nifty was indicated at 23,333, which is 151 points lower. Oil prices recovered from the daily low of $107.29 per barrel amid heightened tensions in the Middle East, putting pressure on supply forecasts. September futures on the International Exchange reached $108 per barrel, up 0.34%, after previously reaching $110.
