The study showed that having a romantic partner has a positive effect on homeostatic processes in the human body. For example, maintaining a stable glucose level after eating is more effective in the presence of such a partner, which leads to a reduction in blood sugar spikes.
Furthermore, the experiments demonstrated that social interaction is beneficial not only for thermoregulation but also for sympathetic regulation during moments of stress. The authors of this study believe that all these effects may indicate the influence of social closeness on a person's overall somatic condition.
