Uzbekistan has increased one-time monetary rewards for chess players who have won medals at major international tournaments, as well as for their coaches. The relevant Presidential Decree No. PP-346 was adopted on September 21, 2026.
According to this decree, athletes who take first place in the World Chess Championship and Paralympic competitions for adults will receive $200,000 USD for a gold medal, $100,000 USD for a silver, and $50,000 USD for a bronze. Coaches in these cases will receive $50,000, $25,000, and $12,500 USD, respectively.
In youth competitions at the World Chess Championship and Paralympic Games, athletes will be awarded $20,000 USD for gold, $10,000 USD for silver, and $5,000 USD for bronze. Coaches will receive $5,000, $2,500, and $1,250 USD.
For medals at world competitions classified by the International Chess Federation (FIDE), chess players are entitled to $15,000 USD for gold, $7,500 USD for silver, and $3,750 USD for bronze. Corresponding payments for coaches will amount to $7,000, $3,500, and $1,750 USD.
At Asian level competitions also classified by FIDE, athletes will receive $10,000 USD for a gold medal, $5,000 USD for silver, and $2,500 USD for bronze. Coaches in such cases will receive $5,000, $2,500, and $1,250 USD.
Furthermore, when an athlete is awarded the title of International Grandmaster, a separate payment of $5,000 USD will be provided.
The decree also establishes rules for distributing payments intended for coaches. The payment is directed to the coach who trained the athlete during the previous year. However, by decision of the relevant coaching council, the reward may be divided between this coach and other specialists who participated in the athlete's training over the last four years.
