Taekwondo athlete Talah Al Hassan Al Hinide, born in Syria, aims to win a gold medal while representing the first Refugee Team of the Olympic Council of Asia at the 2026 Asian Games in Haiti-Nagoya. She announced this to CGTN Sports Scene Shen Xiang.
The athlete is 18 years old and is one of two athletes selected for the OCA Refugee Team. Al Hinide will compete in the women's category up to 49 kg. Her participation marks an important milestone for this initiative, as she becomes the first woman to represent this group at the Asian Games.
Al Hinide considers taekwondo and sports in general to be significant forces capable of improving her life. After intensive preparation for the Asian Games, she hopes that competing on the continental stage will open a new chapter in her sporting career.
In addition to athletic goals, Al Hinide plans to use her experience to help other people, especially refugees, looking to the future both within and outside of taekwondo.
