California Attorney Rob Bonta clarified details of the case concerning its state's coast, while New York representative Leticia James leads a group of seven states seeking to halt the Trump administration's intention to cease the development of this energy form on the coasts of New York and New Jersey.
Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Vermont have joined these two states. Implementing the intention to cancel projects in these states would result in compensation payments totaling $1.4 billion.
Overall, the Trump administration has already allocated four billion dollars for compensating the cancellation of such projects nationwide.
James deemed the Executive Branch's actions illegal and stated that ultimately this will lead to increased utility bills for citizens, as the states' ability to respond to growing energy demand is sabotaged.
For his part, Bonta noted that California, as a national and international leader in the fight against global climate change, finds itself involved in 'avoidable and unnecessary battles with the federal government itself' to advance climate action and the transition to clean energy.
