Uztelecom announced that its subsidiary, UZ-SAT, has signed an agreement with Amazon Leo, becoming the authorized distributor of this satellite system in Uzbekistan.
This partnership aims to expand connectivity capabilities in remote and hard-to-reach areas where building traditional telecommunications infrastructure is limited. Amazon Leo solutions will complement existing terrestrial networks.
The Amazon Leo system is a low Earth orbit satellite network from Amazon, designed to provide high-speed internet access in regions with limited access to standard networks.
According to the terms of the agreement, UZ-SAT will develop and provide connection solutions to clients in Uzbekistan using the capabilities of the Amazon Leo network. For residents of remote settlements, this will ensure broader use of government digital services, distance education, online medical consultations, as well as remote work and communication services. Businesses can utilize satellite communication to support production and infrastructure facilities in inaccessible locations.
Uztelecom continues to develop the country's telecommunications infrastructure, including expanding the fiber optic network, modernizing mobile communications, and creating data centers and cloud platforms. The company provides connectivity to 96% of the country's settlements and manages 378,802 km of fiber-optic lines.
Nevertheless, the geographical characteristics of some regions continue to create a need for alternative communication technologies. Amazon Leo solutions are designed to supplement terrestrial infrastructure where its application is difficult or economically unfeasible.
UZ-SAT CEO Bakhrom Azimov noted that this cooperation will expand connectivity options in areas where using traditional infrastructure is problematic. According to him, the new generation satellite communication will complement Uztelecom's current infrastructure.
Amazon Leo Global Business Head Trevor Wieeg stated that the company expects to provide high-speed internet to residents and businesses in Uzbekistan who require an additional connection option. He also emphasized the significance of Uztelecom and UZ-SAT's local experience in developing satellite technologies in the country.
The announcement of the agreement was made during the 5th Tashkent International Investment Forum. The service launch took place on the first day of ICT Week Uzbekistan 2026 at the Uztelecom booth, in the presence of an official delegation and Amazon representatives.
