Google has introduced the new Googlebook laptop, which is intended to compete in the laptop market. Previously, the company focused primarily on Chromebooks, achieving good success in the education sector thanks to ChromeOS. However, Google is now taking a step forward, striving to offer users a premium Android experience on a laptop that will easily integrate with their smartphones.
Googlebook will run on Googlebook OS, which was previously codenamed Aluminium OS. This new OS combines the Android technology stack with the desktop technologies of ChromeOS, giving users the ability to experience both Android and PC usage on one device.
One of the most significant features of Googlebook is the integration of Gemini AI, which constitutes a large part of the user experience. Additionally, there is an option to connect an Android phone to the laptop, through which the phone's contacts, messages, passwords, and Wi-Fi networks can be accessed during the Googlebook setup. The Continue On function allows users to continue work started on the phone directly on the Googlebook, and also provides access to photos and files stored on the smartphone. Thanks to the Cast My Apps function, applications from the Android phone can be displayed on the laptop screen.
Several important technical specifications were determined during the development of Googlebook. The first models of these laptops are presented by brands such as Acer, Asus, Dell, HP, and Lenovo. Instead of plastic, more expensive materials, including aluminum, magnesium alloy, and carbon fiber, were used in production. In terms of display, Googlebook supports touch control, offering OLED panels with resolutions up to 2.8K and 3K, as well as an IPS display option. All devices are equipped with a backlit keyboard, a tactile trackpad, and a fingerprint sensor.
A special feature of Googlebook is the Glowbar, which was first demonstrated at Android Show in May. This element is attached to the laptop lid and gives it a distinctive appearance. Minimum configuration requirements include 16 GB of RAM and 256 GB of SSD storage, and the battery can provide up to 14 hours of video playback. Among the artificial intelligence functions, Magic Pointer, Rambler, and Create My Widget stand out. Magic Pointer assists with tasks by understanding text and images on the screen, while Rambler converts voice-recorded notes into structured text.
Pre-orders for Googlebook have currently started in several individual countries. Sales will begin in the USA on October 4th, and on October 5th in Canada, the UK, Ireland, France, Germany, and Australia. Information regarding the start of sales in India has not yet been provided.
