Geely officially presented the new version of the EX5, an electric SUV that will be launched in Chinese stores on September 23rd under the local name Galaxy E5. The most significant modification is under the vehicle, as the model now uses an 800V architecture and features a rear-axle mounted motor, generating 333 hp.
This performance advancement is notable, given that the previous version provided 218 hp, representing an approximate increase of 116 hp. Two battery configurations are available: the entry-level one, with 61.5 kWh, offers up to 550 km range in the Chinese CLTC cycle, while the 70 kWh package reaches 635 km. Using the WLTP protocol, which is more aligned with real-world use and referenced in Europe, the ranges are 451 km and 521 km, respectively.
In terms of aesthetics, the update replaces recessed door handles with traditional pulls and incorporates bumpers with matte chrome finishes. An important highlight is the LiDAR sensor installed on the roof, complemented by radars located on the front fenders. The wheels have a diameter of 19 inches, and the charging port has been moved to the rear fender, on the driver's side.
The SUV dimensions are 4.64 meters long, 1.92 meters wide, and 1.67 meters high, with a wheelbase of 2.75 m, metrics comparable to a GWM Haval H6. Furthermore, the vehicle has a front trunk with a capacity of 160 liters, which features electric opening and supports up to 50 kg.
The interior is equipped with an LCD instrument panel, a floating multimedia screen, and a head-up display. The center console features wireless phone charging, a rotary gear selector, and physical buttons, while the steering wheel has a flattened rim at the base. Features include the Flyme Sound audio system, panoramic sunroof, and the G-ASD G-Pilot H5 driving assistance package, which offers assisted navigation on both highways and urban roads.
In the Brazilian market, the EX5 has been available since July 2025, operating in collaboration with Renault, in Pro and Max versions. The national configuration has 218 hp and 32.6 kgfm, using a 60.2 kWh LFP battery and offering up to 530 km range in the CLTC cycle. Geely has not yet confirmed whether this Chinese update will be implemented in Brazil.
This redesign comes at a challenging time for the model in its home market: between January and August 2026, the EX5 registered sales of 40,776 units in China, representing a 45.9% decrease compared to the same period last year.
