China has condemned the 'illegal' sanctions that the United States intends to impose on Iranian airlines. This came a day after U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent warned that Washington might take measures aimed at completely closing Iran's air transport globally.
Scott Bessent told CNBC on Monday that under pressure from American sanctions, 'all Iranian airlines will be closed worldwide' within a few days. These actions are being taken as part of the Trump administration's efforts to increase economic pressure on Tehran.
A spokesperson for China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Guo Jiakun, stated at a press conference that China consistently opposes illegal unilateral sanctions that lack basis in international law or approval from the UN Security Council.
This conflict is escalating shortly before the planned meeting between U.S. President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping, which is scheduled for Thursday in the United States. Bessent also specified that 'all Iranian airlines will be closed worldwide on September 23.'
